Barkley Bocce
Barkley is proud to have one of the top bocce courts in the Pacific Northwest. Built by Tom McNutt of Boccemon,
the 12’ x 76’ court is made of "Raincountry" blend crushed oyster shells. The court is located in the courtyard
next to the Arch Talbot Building.
Traditional Bocce rules are very simple: First, one person is chosen to throw the smaller "pallino" ball out towards
the far end of the court. Teams of one to four players
|
|
take turns throwing the larger "boccia" balls to get as close as possible to the pallino. One can roll the boccia,
or pitch it in the air. One can also knock an opponant’s boccia further away. After all boccia have been tossed,
points are awarded for the balls located nearest the pallino. Another round is then initiated from the other direction.
Bocce can be played upon any level surface by anyone who is willing to try. It is a game for all ages, gender and
athletic ability.
